Wild Animals of Ireland - Red Squirrel
Red Squirrel - The red squirrel is a member of the rodent family and is native to Ireland. It is found in broad leaf, mixed and coniferous woodlands. They have a varied diet including nuts, berries, cone seeds, plant shoots and buds. They usually breed once or twice a year in spring and late summer. The red squirrel is found localised throughout most counties in Ireland but is in decline due to competition from the more agressive Grey Squirrel and loss of habitat.
